No argument from me Sharon, you are exactly right. GWB has been a
disgrace on spending.

Sharon,
You mentioned recreation. I was thinking about that earlier today. I know it
takes money
that the city doesn't have...but...I think we are lacking things like public
basketball courts,
tennis courts, even a public pool. I think our city could benefit from things
such as these.

Sometimes it is. Apparently you missed the whole New Deal lecture
in history class.
But in reality this is not a "jobs" program. The city has many real
problems. Garbage on the streets. Fields of weeds where there
should be grass. A perception of high crime in places who rely on
outsiders
That's why I'm scoffing at the idea that council is responsible for
job creation.
FDR used MASSIVE government spending to create jobs (was only to be
temporary by the way, ended up permenant).
Certainly no one is seriously suggesting the City council undertake
massive spending.
--- In Asbury
And honestly, when is the council going to start surprising us with
some creative thinking like some of the ideas brought up on this
message board?
Seems to me that some of the concepts tossed around here should've
already been thought up by a proactive and successful council.
--- In AsburyPark@ya
Well, if we're talking about FDR style job creation, then the council
would definitely be at the helm...however, try to imagine the council
successfully taking on a job creation mission with all of the other
issues they have to deal with? Yeah, right.

I tend to agree. The dais already has many problems to solve. Seems to me that
MM will be
a major employer in our city...or at least they are building things that will
require many
workers. It's in the best interest of MM and the city to start thinking about
providing jobs
to our citizens.

This is something for the people on the dais to solve. That's they're
job. We can't lay everything at the feet of MM or any developer.
