First of all, all the chains have certain demographic requirements.
Traffic and proeprty location are key as well.So is parking. Give 1
or 1.5 acres in AP now
Since I've been marketing a property on the West Side (RR PLAZA) for
my clients - I've probably spoken to over 500 agents/investors.
That's an interesting point about hojos being a chain. The asbury
building is really cool looking and that's why I'd like it saved, not
for the food. There used to be a hojos in middletown too, but that was
just a boring building.

I almost opened the Circle's franchise where two boots is on 2nd street
about 25 years ago but passed on it.

good points, bluebishoip. its true, many people dont
want any type of "chains" in asbury park. aside from
the fact that howard johnsons had its different
looking building, it was still a chain. at the time
whe it was full of life, there were many other howard
johnsons like it around the country
Right on the Chat and Nibble and Franks Deli too.

oakdorf, i dont follow exactly what your talking
about. but there are plenty of stores and food places
today, that dont follow the standard look of the
building. a good example is mcdonalds and burger
king, who no longer have to stick to the same
buildings. i remembenr a few years ago, when many

Tommy, firstly I think the Chat n Nibble is family friendly and has
great food and
You make a good point OceanChuck. I don't like the food at
Appleby's, etc., but I often make the argument that we should
attract such a restaurant to AP. I have 2 reasons:
First, there are no restaurants here that are family friendly
(except Adriatic) and priced for families. Some don't even
`"will people be sad in 60 years when applebees and other chains like
it close?" the answer is, most likely, yes.'
Memories may indeed take them back, refreshing both happy and sad
moments. This is likely a component in the fondness expressed for
HoJo's; however, the difference in Asbury is that
It's more the architecture then the crappy food.
Give me Hojo shake and fries
All you have to do is go to a franchise show and see the future and or
past.
Most of the franchises now all have the same requirements for locations
and buildings - as towns no longer permit the theme architect
