THE LEGENDARY ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY OF ASBURY PARK
HIGHLIGHTED AT BENEFIT SCREENING AT ASBURY LANES
Living legends, guitar gods and soulful sisters headline a
benefit fundraiser for the documentary feature film Greetings
from Asbury Park. On Sunday, December 11th from 2 p.m. until
7 p.m., Asbury Lanes will host the affair with live
performances by Sonny Kenn, Days Awake and other special guests. Film footage will be featured throughout the day and for the first time, the public will view the Rock and Roll segment of the film.
The musical entertainment segment features performances by
Sonny Kenn, Days Awake, The
Misteriosos, as well as montages
from the Warped Tour of years past, concert footage of
Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes from the 1976
WNEW Shows, and rare archival images of the jazz greats
who performed in the cabarets and dance halls on the
citys West Side. The film also offers a time-traveling
tour of other legendary music venues in town, including
Convention Hall, The Casino, The Saint, The Stone Pony,
The FastLane, Crossroads and Asbury Lanes. It includes
interviews with musicologist and author Bob Santelli,
Upstage publisher Gary Wein, concert promoter and former
Asbury Juke Tony Pallagrosi and the up and coming new
music scene impresario Mel Stutz of Asbury Lanes.
Greetings from Asbury Park, a 94-minute documentary feature
film, is written and directed by Christina Eliopoulos,
born and raised in Asbury Park and recently named
Artist In Residence of the Two River Film Festival at
Monmouth University. Fiscal sponsorship is provided by
Women Make Movies, a national non-profit media arts
organization dedicated to the production and promotion
of films by women directors, producers and cinematographers.
Tickets are $10 or $5 for students with ID and senior citizens
and all proceeds from this event will help support the film.
