I think what you're paying for with the benchmark DAC is the balanced
outputs, calibration pots, and the variety of inputs. I've looked at
the internals - it's a simple design, but definitely well executed and
reasonably priced for a specialty component. Not sure if I like the

I just bought a California Audio Labs Alpha Dac. I figured I liked my
CAL Aria so much that the Alpha might be the way to go, if not I can
resell it for my cost. I also bought a Elpac PS at present I can't
tell the difference but I haven't tried to critically compare.

Please note the sharper s/pdif edges may increase EMI output - they're
filtered for a reason. If you want them sharper just jump across L5. I
wouldn't recommend this because it doesn't reduce jitter, nor would I
expect it to improve any DAC's ability to lock onto the signal. It just
