We just bought a SB3. It's hooked up and playing nice with our wireless
network. Now, we would like to upgrade our soundsystem. I'll confess
up front that my wife and I are not audiophiles. All we've owned so
far is boom-boxes, but we would like a real sound-system. I've done
some research, a

Get a Squeezebox because it's fast, simple, and elegant. Lesser players
are sluggish, have poorer interfaces, and will leave you wanting
especially once you try a Squeezebox.

Sound quality is most important for me. If the SB can do
a job as good as the modified Cambridge drive, I would
be more than happy. The ability to play
FLAC encoded stuff is nice but not essential. I would be

Hi,
I'm one of the weird species called "audiophiles" ;)
Basically I'm interested in the idea of having a music
server. Since I already own an expensive battery-powered
DAC based on PCM1704K that is fed by a heavily
tweaked Cambridge Audio player (upgraded clock, new
power supply etc.), I would c

I know Wayne and respect his work. I think he is far more numerate than
you give him credit for.

When I tried tests like these on my SB2/3 and my
receiver, I wondered what it was I was really
comparing.
Was I comparing DACs, or was I comparing my
receiver's digital implementation versus its
analog implementation? There's a whole chain of
components a digital signal goes through that an
