Thanks for your comments Patrick and John, very usefull information :)
I'll concentrate on raising the funds for the next source :D
and leave the pre for a later date.
Cheers!

My current preamp is a DIY model that I would say is on par with
commercial ones in the $4k to $10K range. Using the SB3 direct to the
power amp, even with the digital volume control, sounds sinificantly
better than using the preamp.

Sorry for cross-posting, but just to duplicate what I wrote elsewhere,
Yes, the Transporters outputs are active, and should sound like any
other active pre-amp.

Sorry, I think a short answer I wrote injected a bit of confusion...
There was a question about the Transporter sounding like a passive
pre-amp, a concern sometimes caused by the highish output impedance a
passive can have. I had a brain fart, and mentioned the transporters
digital domain volume

I got really excited about SACD and even DVD-A until I bought an MP3

MP3 players.
I once was a tech in lab that unknown to me had voltage difference
between the grounds of two circuits. One guy plugged a tape recorder
into one outlet and the source into another. It blew the inputs to the
recorder. I found a voltage between the grounds on the two outlets.

No, you will have to find a nice box, to fit a powercord, and a plug
that will go to the Squeezebox.

Even unbalanced outputs should be able to handle 2 meter interconnects
without a problem, unless you've got some really serious
electromagnetic interference going on in your room.

Sean,
Would it be possible for you to list up some availlable (reasonably
priced) devices with clock outputs that you have tried, and that are
compatible with the word clock input of the TRANSPORT?
By the way, I assume the cable conection is done via BNC, or is it
another standard?

One thing that did surprise me about the Transporter is that the
impedence of its balanced output is quoted as 1kOhm. Does that strike
you as unusually high
So, I just picked up a Monster HTS5100 mkii in a good deal.
Would having such a power conditioner between the house power and the
devices be considered equivalent to having a dedicated circuit or
high-grade outlet?

After ordering a month ago CPC/Farnell have just told me they
* NO LONGER SELL the 5V/1.5A *
I'm back to square one. As Phil says - I ordered my PSU as I was
suffering severe interference with my Naim Tuner.
I'll have a look at the DIY instructions - but its probably beyond
me...

Surely there are a couple of things at play here - the input impedance
of the power amp and it's overall gain.
A 3V pp input would produce an 84V pp output at the speakers with a
power amplifier with a fairly typical gain of +29dBs. But if the input
impedance of the power amp is too low (or the

The most recent SB2/3 Firmware supports 24/96 - I did ask how the
downsampling was done, but I think SD are busy trying to get the
Transporter out of the door, so no response yet.
