On Amazon, I saw a battery powered portable amp for about $32, but then
I'd need to buy an AC adaptor?
I'm looking to power two pairs of speakers in my kitchen ceiling. Maybe
a pair of these amps would do the trick.

Yep, Apple Lossless, like I said. It seems this is a known bug with the
current release. As an experimented, I upgraded again and the
pop/crackles came back. Interestingly, it does not happen if you
forward between songs.

I think I may have fixed the problem. If I tell the slimserver to
convert the flac files to wav at the server, the popping seems to go
away. I will continue testing.

ask a question without searching the forum first, but you know, it was
early in the morning and the coffee had not turned me on yet.
I have a rather old system (20 yrs?), a Musical Fidelity Dr. Thom
Stereophile and The Absolute Sound are the big ones here in US, but
neither focus primarily on recordings, more on equipment. For music
reviews I read Paste, Uncut, and No Depression--but my taste in popular
music runs to alt.country and singer-songwriters.

Pop occurs randomly. I have received an email from someone who seems to
have this working correctly. They did have the same problem when using
a coax cable but switched to aes/ebu connection and problem went away.

Some good stuff there. Having read the links it makes a lot more sense,
but I am far from expert in such matters!
First, my comment about no internal SuperReg was based only on the fact
that I don't want to rehouse the SB3. If I can make one fit, ofcourse
that would then be the favouri
My dac has a display that shows the sample rate of the input signal.
It showed 48khz.
