Tom:
You are welcome to come by and listen to it.
And thanks for the classical guitar/festival. I'll check it out!

ROFL!
Well, maybe not rolling on the floor but still funny! That is just
awesome. That should be posted in any "audiophile" forum.
Narf! I don't think I've seen a better list of options for any category
anywhere.

Hi Tom
Thank you sir!
Yeah, I'm actually amazed at myself. I never would have thought my
stuff would look this good. It's been a learning curve the last year
HI, Thanks so much for your encouraging words!
I'd love to make more of these. However, the limited supply of SB2's
(the SB3's integrated display doesn't allow for easy modification),
makes this very difficult.
Also, I wish I had more time!
I haven't added up the cost yet, but it's less than $1
Crooner,
you be da man, dude.
Your product looks a lot better than some of the "pro" modders out

Crooner,
With much admiration, I have followed this thread to completion.
I am sure that if you would acquiesce, there would be many (including
me) interested in purchasing your most excellent "mod" for the SB2/3.
As an aside, what kind of $$$ for materials (excluding SB) is involved
in a project
Are you using a wireless SB, or using a network cable to connect it to
your audio system?
Power line conditioners are no solution to a ground loop problem, or
are a VERY expensive solution. Of course, the guys who sell them will
tell you that you need one to fix that hum, but what do you expect
I have the Nait 5 which is the Nait 5i's predecessor. I am sure they
are very similar.
I am far from an expert, but I am fairly convinced this is some kind of
problem with the Squeezebox. I don't get the buzz/hum if I re-connect
my CD player to the Nait in place of the Squeezebox.
If I find
hey Ned, thanks for the note, actually the answer is NO. I went and
pickedup and APC (list $500, got it from Microcenter for around 289 i

definitely the Slimbox cuz when i remove it the system is nice and
quiet. Do you have the Naim

I am wondering whether you ever solved this problem. I am having what
appears to be the identical issue with a Naim Nait 5.

The way it works is not completely intuitive. Test signals only play
when you're playing music, and changes only start at the next track
(not immediately). See if it's behaving "correctly":
- Go to the "test signals" menu and select a signal (noise, sweep,
etc)
- Press ">>" (fast-forward) on th
Tonyptony,
that sounds like what I'm getting. I can only turn on some test
signals, most don't seem to work. But then I couldn't turn the test
signals off either.

So I should start a music track and then go to EQ to select Pink Noise?
I have a number of samples that look like this in the log file:

Yes, the Ref1000's will work just by plugging into 230V

The test signals only play when music is playing - and sometimes you
need to skip forward to the next track to start the process.
If you still don't hear the test signals, then check the log file (in
the application data folder) to see whether there's any activity. It
should log a few lines for

Hi,
I've ripped a HDCD to wave via WMP10>Chronotron. It is indeed showing
in Soundforge 9 that it's not just of a lower volume: The peaks are not
"shaved off" anymore. Now I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to
normalize the peak level to 0db? Would that "harm" my file?

I don't understand the arguments against ALAC on the basis that it's
closed and therefore Apple may cease to support it. Is it really
reasonable to suppose that all of a sudden all software capable of
playing ALAC will disappear, leaving ALAC users up a creek?

I agree with Heuer, except in my case I use REACT2 to rip CDs
simultaneously to FLAC and M4A (AAC) formats. After a lot of testing,
I concluded that at similar bitrates, most M4A tracks sounded slightly
better than Lame-encoded MP3 tracks (either CBR or VBR) on my iPod.

Hi - I have a 230MB FLAC file, ripped using EAC. If I play it with the
Inguz equalizer (not not room correction) on two things happen. Firstly
there is a fraction of a second played right at the beginning of the
track which shouldn't be there. Secondly, and more importantly, it just
stops playing
Hi Anne!
Thanks for the kind comments on my design.
This is actually, the "Super Squeezebox" and it's not a commercial
design. Just a home project for the fun of it!
The SB+, OTOH, is available on the market and a completely different
animal.
Compared to the stock SB3, my unit has improved soun
All my music is in FLAC format for use on the SB3 and converted to MP3
for use on the iPod. This way I can manage my MP3 music in iTunes. You
do not need to have anything to do with ALAC or AAC unless you really
want to. It does surprise me how many people think buying an iPod
limits you to Apple
I checked this and I beleieve Linn is using the default setting of -5. I
have seen the same happen; high FLAC compression and 24 bit audio can
produce the "burbling" effect you describe. Reencoding to -0 or -1 fixes
this (I use an SB2). I noticed this first on material I recorded myself,
and la

more. Now it seems that the SB3 and Transporter are hi-fi not computer

And when is production up and running ??
If you have to compete with SB+ I would like to see some black anodized

quite so sharp" edges..
Anyway, looks fabulous, would love to hear it !

I saw that rumour also. The suggestion is that, if this were to
happen, then it would be logical that iTunes would also be upgraded to
support flac which would give a big boost t
Just an update on my earlier issue with the "burbling" effect on new
Linn Records 24/96 files (Claire Martin). I updated my flac to 1.1.4
and then ran a test file, re-encoding to a flac compression level of -0
and then tried playing it on the TP. Result was absolutely clean music
with no distort
The ONLY reson I can see to choose ALAC over FLAC is if you're going to
abandon the Squeezebox altogether and go with an Apple TV device (which
does have a very slick interface, BTW). But, you'll need a TV next to
it, and some of us still keep our Hi-Fis and home theaters in seperate
rooms.

I had a look at importing a pair of A1000s myself last year. I'm not

eliminated the stuttering when streaming a 96 KHz Linn Records flac
