screw the speakers to the stands?

I noticed that with SB3 volume is louder on many internet stations than
when playing FLAC files from my PC's hard drive. Is this normal? I even
find that SQ seems better on some stations compared to FLAC files. What
could explain this?

I have searched the forums (quite extensively) but many of the amps
used are multipurpose with phono outs, tape loops etc. I am not going
to need any of these and was hoping to gain quality by purchasing an
amp without all of these unneeded features.

Apparently you can buy (or build) hollow stands which you fill with
sand. These make them very heavy and if the base is wide enough,
virtually tip-proof. As a bonus, you get a very, very stiff base that
won't resonate.

his playground. When not in use I keep mine covered with the drivers
facing the wall so I can be sure he will keep his fingers, food

can't even pick up - lead shot and so on.
Blu-tac on those would mean kid would need to push the top half of the
speaker very hard indeed, and it would fall away from him.

My floor standers, like many others, came with a fairly broad base - you
would need to deflect the speakers through a large angle (sorry, not
measured it) before they fell over.
However this will,as you say, entail lots of listening and expense and
even then will only reduce the risk somewhat.
