I know most audiophiles would cringe to read this butthe quality of
the source material (the LP and the transfer to digital) matters a whole
lot more than whether it's in 16 or 24 bit
Very interesting discussion. I hadn't thought about recording in 24 bit.
I will give that a try. However, like others - a secondary purpose of
converting the albums was to get them into CD format as well - for
playback in a car. Hm... my Acura TL has DVD-Audio playback as well - I
bet I could play

Correct. Since many of my LPs are then converted to standard CDs, 16
bit is all I ca

Wave Corrector looks really good, but according to the FAQ only
supports 16-bit recordings. I prefer 24-bit recording for LPs.

You may want to consider running WHS. Your machine needs 512 MB of RAM
to run it but I found it to be very useful for running SS as a headless
setup. I am able to locate it where I don't have to listen to any noise
from it and I have filled it with 7 disks for a total of 1.3 TB. All of
these disks
You might want to think about capturing your LPs in a 24-bit WAV format
before splitting and converting to FLAC. The Squeezebox will handle
24-bit/48kHz FLACs, and they should sould better than 16/44.1.
Also, think about the future. Most likely at some point, ALL digital
music playback systems
You might want to take a look at whatever cd writer software you may
already have on your PC.
Most versions of Roxio's CD Creator software come with track splitting
routines. I suspect Nero might do it also.

I should add that there is a newly discovered bug that the word clock
input will not activate until you disconnect and reconnect to the
server, or do a soft reset by pressing and holding the power button.

Thanks - these are very interesting experiences. Sadly my phones have
not yet arrived (hopefully tomorrow). If they do indeed sound like
ESL's on your ears I will be very happy!
I'm not a fan of Grado's (heresy I know but I find them rather
tiresome) - and Sennheiser 650's left me rather "cold".
I
Spin It Again software http://www.acoustica.com/spinitagain/ will
capture the wav and do track splitting into whatever bit depth (16 or
24) and sampe rate (44.1, 48, 96, 192k) you want. Very easy to use with
voice guidance and it is free to try.
FLACfrontend will convert the wav to the lossless F
I second haunyack's suggestion of the FLAC frontend GUI program.
There's also a similar GUI program called the TAG frontend that allows
one to add/edit/replace the tags without re-encoding the file. I've
also got a few little programs I wrote to, in a similar way, generate a
bat file of metaflac

That would be a good point to start to learn more about the DAC. On a
general level, I can personally vouch for CJ products. I have owned
one of their preamps (PV-8) and we used to sell their entire product
line when I worked retail back in the 80s. Their customer service is
very good.

So far you've had plenty of replies concerning the conversion to FLAC
part of your enquiry, but not much about the track-splitting
requirement. The program you should take a look at is called CD Wave
