I need a good, simple amplifier(s) for my office to be the output for my
transporter. I'd love to keep the money down to $1500 if possible. I am
looking at the Channel Island D-100s. Anyone have thougths on something
in the price range?

I think the SB3 DAC is really excellent. When running it with Senn
HD600 headphones on an amp, it sounds... well, the best adjectives I've
come up with are 'liquid' and 'floaty', which aren't very descriptive.
:) I realize that the DAC in the SB3 is only about a $5 part, but it
sounds VERY good

thanks for your findings... I've the exact same interest: little, not
too expensive, active speakers for my bathrooms... (or an auto on/off
T-class ampli?)

I have read the wiki about direct connection to power amplifier.
It does not mention a menu setting for the SB, that says:
PREAMP VOLUME CONTROL
This is a secondary volume control which applies only to the analog
outputs on Squeezebox. Enter the amount of attenuation in decibels.

For a little higher budget, you should definitly try your hears on Elac
310.2 Jet speakers:
