Darren Yeats,

Do you think its the speaker that is a problem. Cause what i saw
missing was midrange guitar...the distorted guitar just didnt show

Hmm - so I guess the routine for level matching is just broken. In that
case its utility is limited, although it should still be good for
comparing FLAC to WAV, or digital cables, or two sources into the same
DAC, or maybe interconnects.
In any case (because of the phase issue plus other problem

In the late 80´s One Hifi magazine here in sweden did a listening test
on Digtal transports (CD players) to a External DAC.
The CD players sounded much difference from each other,
They fought this difference was because of the transports reading
capabilities, more stable CD mechanism etc.

When levelmatched to within 1 dB, I hear absolute no difference between

No, Transporter cannot decode DTS or Dolby Digital. Usually these are
5.1-channel streams, the Transporter is a 2-channel device and doesn't
know what to do with 5.1.
There has been some work with Dolby Digital streams though, which you
can find somewhere in the forum.
But - you are aware that
I've used it to compare WAV to FLAC playback through the analogue outs
of my SB3. In that case the levels were identical, so that wasn't an
issue. The difference file was white noise -85dB down or so, with the
noise probably coming mostly from the recording (which was done using

hi there,
is there any way to make transporter play DTS stream via one of it's
digital in's?
using a NAD T533 dvd player which unfortunately only perfectly sends
2-channel stereo @ 96 khz and 5.1 dolby surround, but I also want to
play DTS over the transporter DAC. the NAD has only DTS digital o
Hi,
I missed that you had some Cadence hybrid speakers.
As it happens, I've heard a Krell KAV-300i (not mine) powering a pair
of Cadence Amayas. Also the same speakers being powered by a pair of
Audion Silver Night valve mono amps. The Audions were much better -
very believable sound and even the
I saw in this thread reference to audiodiffmaker
and wonder if anybody has got this to work right.
I have a scummy old squeezebox 1 and I've finally finished ripping my
CDs to flac after two years and one HD crash ;) Backup is good to have,
and I didn't...

I had a DEQ2496 for a while. While I didn't buy it for the DAC and
didn't put much effort into comparing the SB3 analog out with the
DEQ's, I found it a passable piece of equipment. I'd put them roughly
in the same class, though I might give a slight edge to the SB3.
I ended up selling the DEQ.

This isn't exactly the same as using an XLR to RCA cable, but since you

I find differences between digital sources subtle, but important for
deciding whether I want to listen a lot more! If anyone finds
something like cables 'unlistenable', it's a sure sign that they have
gone too far away from music and into the equipment. The music is
always good, the equipment is
Micromega is nice kit, and you're not risking much cash, but I would
generally reckon that a ten year-old DAC might be bettered by one of
the current super-budget crop from the far east.
But you'd be able to get the same back on ebay if you didn't like it,
so there is really very little to lose i
I don't own a Transporter (yet) - but one of the single biggest sonic

output of my source, and the RCA inputs of my amp (using a 1-foot RCA
