An alternative source if you are DIY is K&K Audio. See this page on

It is indeed a difficult choice in this regard.
I recently took the plunge back into vinyl used Rega P25 w/ Super Else
cartridge, and a Trigon Vanguard II phono preamp; whilst at the same
time upgrading my cd playback system to a highly regarded Cambridge
Audio 840C up sampling deck. Actually

I don't have Kind of Blue on LP, but I do have the Columbia/Legacy C
I personally think vinyl sounds better - sod the noise floor! There's
something more fluid and musical about a good analogue source.
However, I find my Transporter comes very close, plus I get a display to
see what each track is called! I occasionally use a CD player to listen
to new discs befo
To comment on the noise floor of a vinyl LP vs CD, there no way an LP
can hold a candle to CD; CD has a lower noise floor; end of discussion!
That said, I know of few recordings (especially popular), which come
anywhere near to using the low noise floor CD offers. Many popular
recordings do not e

Hi
I've had an Arcam Alpha CD player and amp from when they didn't have
numbers after their name ('88, in this case) and a pair of Linn Index
speakers[1] - same vintage.
What do you think? 20 year upgrade might be permissible?
I mostly listen now to a Squeezebox, through a home-made Meta42

I don't think that you have to run for cover, I'm sure we can discuss
this in an orderly manner :-D
Sometimes I go crazy in my responces, like this time :-))
when this Digital / Analog discussion comes up we always tend

I think Motown used to play the loudness game on their 45s and LPs.
They often had, to my ear, a sort of "crunchy" sound. The loudness
wars did happen on LP and especially 45, but not to the extent that
it's happened with

I'm also thinking about dynamic range, with high quality gear, I'm not
convinced that the dynamic range in practice is significantly better on

Yup, the built in attenuators pnly work w/unbalanced outputs.

According to the Transporter owner's manual it has a built-in attenuator
for the balanced outputs. Has anybody tried this? This would be perfect
for me.

I ordered Endlers. I don't expect to receive them for another month.
There are other options mentioned in this and a couple of other posts.

Do you have any recommendations of where to get a nice XLR set? Seems
like Endler is not even accepting orders right now.

I have had no problem enjoying the TP even w/o attenuators. The volume
(at least w/my amps) is not ear splitting loud on even the loudest
recordings. Just a little loud for conversation or my wife's liking and
even then only on certain recordings.
Definitely get the attenuators, but don't sweat t

My Modwright Transporter is due to arrive tomorrow. Are you guys saying
that I cannot run it directly to my amp with an attenuator?
