The way they're configured, one is around $700k and the other @ $500k.
We're expecting an 'end-of-quarter' discount from SSL if we can commit
before the end of March. I spent all day in LA at SSL as well as some
visiting time with Ed Cherney in his room at The Village. A great
trip, all-in-all.

True, I was just thinking of any vinyl I've recorded, knowing I'd use
some sort of de-click/de-scratch/de-crackle plug-in to help out a bit.
As cliveb has suggested, if you're not doing any manipulation to the
original file, 44.1/16 is fine.

So cliveb, what do you do? Anywhere c

Try one out? Nothing beats an actual audition and you get a 30 day

Hi
Have owned a standard SB3 + Lavry DAC for about a year ago.
Combined with a pair of mid level Magnepan's and a Jolida hybrid

audiophile 'bug', and am wondering if moving to a Transporter from my

So...I powered up the Transporter and held the add key on the remote for
a factory reset. I then selected digital input>rca spdif>play and I had
music..until I changed the volume and then lost the signal and
got the clicking volume back and then the pops.
I powered the Transporter off (w

Talking about the sound strictly, there's no reason to go lossy these
days. Especially if one is starting from a CD.
Now, if we are talking about the music, I'll take it any way shape or
form I can. If I can I'll store it in FLAC. If not, then which ever way
it comes is fine. Not everything wort

As i stated it is my personal feeling that comes from personal
experience recording music on digital systems for the last 15 years.
The ditherin we use for our final master is Apogees "UV22HR". There is
a noticeable difference when the bypass is on. I hear a similar tonality
from the transporter.

It will match your amp very well and it sounds much better than older
BP25 or Bryston 1.7 processor(despite of Bryston claims that it is the
same circuit).
My BP26 replaced Simaudio P-5, Ayre K-1, Pass X-1 and plethora of other
preamps including Magnetic Passive.

I have been experimenting with various types of connections to/from my
Transporter and stumbled upon a strange thing. By accident I have tried
a power cord without a ground connected and I got more dynamic and
cleaner (not brighter sound) than with a normal grounded cord. The
effect is not subtle
Eric, I know that Belles builds an outstanding amplifier! I do not know
as much about their pre's but I believe they are very very good as
well. The 28a is a reference pre and should have everything you are
looking for. I believe they go for $2500-$2800 on Agon.

The analog output of the DEQ is pro level +4dBu (and +14 if needed)
which is too high for most audiophile preamps. You either have to get
10dB attenuators or a 4:1 isolation transformer (look at Jensen ISOMAX
series).

An idea in another direction. Since your budget is tight you may
consider looking at used studio amps. Most studios these days have
older high end amps they do not use since the trend for studios is to
have the amp integrated into the speaker. Though studio amps maybe a

As for lossy vs 16/44 this is a non-issue for me. I buy my music on CD

hard disks too), because CD has no DRM and because in general I listen

My collection is encoded with FLAC lossless, although I use MP3 lossy

at all is a good indication that ones ears can be fooled; that they
work as well as they do shows how much they can be fooled. That said,

I'm sure you'll the vast majority of users here stick to lossless
formats, esp. FLAC, whenever possible. Why discard musical information
when you don't have to?
It's a different matter for portable devices etc where file size is
important . . .

First the Transport is great.
I would like to see another version of the Transport with no features.
Just a black box with digital outputs that just feed the raw PCM data
(of cource after decoded from FLAC or other codecs) to our own personal
choice of DAC. A slave clock input would be great.
