Thanks for the reply.
I must admit that my knowledge in amps etc. is not as good as I would
wish for.
I have tried to find out about the Lyngdorf's:
- input sensitivity (less than 1.5V (less than 1V even better)
- input impedance. (probably no lower than 10K and better if higher)

So there must be something very wrong with your original switch, if your
new router sounds significantly better.
Regarding WAV sounding better than FLAC, this has been discussed
before. The only explanation that is plausible is that when the SB3
natively decodes the FLAC, the act itself causes s

I'm not always right, but I'm not going to dignify every (possibly
harebrained) idea with "possible explanations". Just do some reasonable
tests so we've got something to go on.

You are indeed working backwards. The critical interface is amp and

source (2-3V output depending on unbalanced or balanced transmission
and benign impedance of around 100 ohm). Because you don't mention a

If so, I can set up my laptop as a wired (to router) source on my

OK, maybe this is a dumb question, but wouldn't attempting to play back
a DTS track be a pretty good test of whether or not the signal is being

has been very low in volume :) I remembered to simply put vol back to

I applied the 7.2 - 7.3 sw and firmware update and now my optical-out
doesn't turn off when the unit is powered down. My DAC is triggered by
an optical signal so now it's on all of the time also.

This would be the best way to confirm any change:
Record the same track from the digital output at full volume from both
firmware 113 (7.2.1) and 120 (7.3). Compare the two in an audio
editor. Do you see any differences?
You can see the changes in firmware 120 here:

You're not imagining it - I found that the top end is more pronounced

If somebody wants to compare source and DAC analog outputs for jitter

jitter they were hearing (vs. differences due to the different device
