You trust TAS on something technical? Dream on. They review things as

Just borrowed a coworker's copy of TAS and read their review of the
Transporter over lunch.
One of the things they mention is that you it loses some fidelity if
turned below maximum output, which suggests that plugging directly into
an amp may not be such a good idea.

Thanks for your help thus far. Listened to the same track again and I'm

I want to know what was causing it and avoid it in the future.
Bothersome to say the least when listening.
I don't see the setting you mentioned, these
OK, but its still difficult to advice. What is your current amp/speaker.
What have you heard that you like or dislike?
The problem with active speakers, and in particular those with digital
inputs sa the Avi's, is that they do not cater for incremental upgrades.
Its all or nothing. So no matter h

I check that out before I made the comment. Matthias's code was for a
student thesis, it is v1.0, no updates and was completed in early 2004
(consider MS has changed Windows Audio APIs for Vista).
I reckon using that module would be asking for trouble.

This is more Sun issue for Softsqueeze as JavaSound doesn't support
ASIO.

I don't know how good softsqueeze is regarding asio or other bit perfect
drivers. You might check into winamp which does support asio and
recently they added winamp "remote" which I assume is a web interface.

Firewire is better, but USB is perfectly viable, if you've got a
reasonably capable PC. Lots of music production pro types use USB
interfaces like these Edirol kits.
I use an ageing USB Edirol UA-20 for live performance - ie low-latency
real-time sound synthesis and sampling. With a decent lap-

Or, if you get a 24 bit DAC, you can use the SB's digital volume
control, and there is no ne
Frankly, I'm rather confused by your post. You speak of modded power
supply and external dacs, while at the same time just wanting something
cheap without specifying what that means? Good sound doesn't by
definition cost a fortune, but if you're finding the stock SB3
insufficient then it seems you
