If one has a good vinyl setup, the overhead of 24/96 AD conversion is
minimal compared to the cost of the TT system and you might as well go
the high rez route.
One of the reasons I bought a TP was for the same reasons as
Cliveb...cept he has the 100's and I have the ATC SCM50a's. I bought my

Neither am I but It was interesting to read just how quickly Neil
Young's Archive set on blu-ray sold out the first pressing, inspite of
the price premium I'm sure the industry types were watching that

Got my CA DacMagic, first impression (no fully run-in yet), it delivers
a wider, deeper and more dynamic soundstage, better clarity, i can hear
different depth of music with ease, it provides a very good and clear 3D
sound imaging especially at mid-range (vocal) frequencies. I tried them

It's not really smart-gain mode that is the issue. Any random mix of
different album tracks could cause a gain mismatch. Here's why.
Last I remember, no implementation of replay-gain that I know of will
boost (gain +dB) a track to meet the 83dB or 89dB go
Unless you have replaygain disabled and the volume set to 100% (or
"fixed" in the squeezecenter settings) all Squeezeboxs will apply 24bit
volume control.
I wouldn't worry about the volume control too much. Since the
squeezebox volume control is done in 24 bits any rounding errors are
well below
I'm the proud new owner of a Bryston B60R amplifier optioned with their
built-in DAC. I've connected my SB Receiver's "Digital Out" to the
Bryston's DAC input using RCA connectors.
A quick listen surprised me that the volume control on the SB
Controller actually works. I would have thought the

No, of course I didn't. While I'm in the camp which believes that the

In both excellent reviews by John Atkinson and Steven Stone, the volume
is set to 100%, Atkinson used pre-amp, I think, while Stone used gain on
the amplifier (the same way I do). The problem that in my case this is
not very convenient..
Anyway, you see I am moving from one s

The 24-bit digital level control is transparent provided you do not
lower the volume
