Does the Samsung HDD have it's own PSU, or is it being powered by the
USB cable, and thus the SBT?

Hmmm, I've downloaded the latest version, manually installed it,

The only streamer I'm aware of that will support such high res files

My SB+ only supports upto 24/48, but I have compared that against a 16
bit version of the same file, having used Foobar to downsample(?) from
24 to 16 bit. IMO the 24 bit sounded a good deal better, at least on
my system.

Strikes me that you're going to be limited by how good your AV amp is.
I've yet to hear one that I think can really deal with music.
So I'd suggest you go the cheap option of the duet, as I just don't see
you getting the benefit of the extra spend on the transporter.

output, and with minimal manually applied room correction to only deal
with a bass overhang.
In short, if you have a decent room, don't bother as it'll be more
damaging than useful. In a really naff room, can be very useful.

system you mention would probably work quite well with some cheaper
horns, but be aware that you may want to look at better sources as a

I used to have a DAC that was supposedly "jitter resistant", and used
the same solution as in the Benchmark DAC1. I still found that it
sounded better with a better transport.

I've heard the TACT system and own a Behringer. I feel that both have
negative impact on the signal, despite processing only a digital
signal.

Another option is a unit like the Behringer DEQ2496. Feed it a digital
output from the SB and let it do it's stuff. Not only can it complete
either an automatic, or a manually completed room correction, but it
can also be used in conjunction with a mic for measuring the room.

bears that out.
I know a chap with a std SB3 who's heard a Meridian 500 transport (and
that's a non-clocked 500), and thought that the 500 was a good deal
better.
