. If I put a passive volume control in between, is it
like the output impedance of the source gets higher? Same with these
Rothwells?

I forgot. Thank you for all the answers! I think I wouldn't even figure
out the amp has RCA inputs, I was so sure it has balanced only :)

t number. This could help, although I still would be a
little bit afraid of some sudden configuration reset or anything.
I wonder now how Transporter would be, and think how nice it would be
if Transporter had additional analog inputs and input switching, so it
would be a comple
r
wouldn't modify anything inside just for SB3.
Where did you find the schematics? It can be useful if I ever need to
get it repaired.

try the CD player directly into the EC? - that would prove or

OK. I cannot play the music from the CD (no volume control), but can
connect it and see, if the power amp starts fi
er two times worse than SB3 - and still
works with EC.
It seems I will have time to test shorting plugs soonest tomorrow. If
it doesn't work, it's maybe a good idea to contact Electrocompaniet,
maybe they know the answer, or at least what the amp is checking for.
As for safety, I know
er cable.
It looks really strange to me.
I'll try to make shorting plugs in the evening.

well (have to make some shorting plugs
first), but as far as I understand, there's really no difference
comparing to using XLR's, if XLR's unused pins are grounded in the
connector properly. So I don't expect that it will make any difference.

some cheap RCA cables and will disassembly one of them on
one end and try to connect grounds.

he connectors I use now (they look not great
actually).
But I think these connectors are not the reason for my problems,
because they work with all other equipment. What I used is exactly
this:

It's written it has signal on pin 1, and pin's
y to connect the grounds. The amp have the ground connector on
the rear panel, like most amps used to have (I think mostly for
turntables). Can I just connect this to SB3 coax outer ring, or could I
break anything?
Could it have any negative effect on either EC or SB3?

etup with this passive amp in between,
so basically SB3 with a power amp and I really like the sound.

ime I start EC, there's no signal coming (SB3 is paused or
powered off with the remote).
So the question is, why the combo SB3 + EC doesn't run?
It's really incredible to me. Could this be some grounding problem in
SB3, which the EC detects, or what else?
