any difference between my SB3 feeding my DAC, and my Mac MCD201 feeding
my DAC. The SB3 and DAC don't sound as good as my MCD201's analog
outputs, but then the CD player cost 3x what the SB3 +

Damn dogs.
For my other gear, I just trained the dog to walk over and adjust the
controls from the faceplates, with her snout. Unfortunately, I can't
do this with my SB3, since it doesn't have any controls on the
faceplate. Time to talk to the wife about getting a

iTunes doesn't give this level of control or information, so you don't
know for sure if the file on your hard drive is bit for bit identical
with the original CD.
It's easy to get these two issues con
the same as if it were a directory on my local drive. I
usually just let Max organize the music folder for me - it sets up a
directory for each artist, and subdirectories for each album,
automatically. But it's easy to tweak if I need to fix something,
like, say,
eezebox makes it simple to keep the two libraries
separate.

Most jazz and blues is similar. But rock and pop is ge

with any instrument. Even the human voice is not useful as a reference
if it's subject to the processing used on most pop recordings.

I don't know for sure, but Markertek may ship to Canada.

definate step up from the SB3's analog outputs. But I can't really say
whether it's $100 better than the base DAC 60, or $100 worse than the

from either the DAC or the SB3's analog outputs.
I'll get the 88kHz WAV files scanned back in, and see how those work
with the external DAC - with the SB3's analog outputs, I just got

I should be receiving a DAC that's capable of up to 96kHz (a Lite
DAC-60) in the next couple of days. When I get a chance, I'll check to
see if the SB3 can pass an 88kHz signal to it, using e
t, and my SB3 plays the FLACs just fine. It's
also showing this as an 88.2kHz file, though - ??

are losses, shouldn't there be no loss in the
transcoding? If with either one you can reconstruct the original file
bit for bit, why would transcoding change this? It will take more
processor power, but I don't see any other downsides.
Now, transcoding lossy formats is an
same basic DAC, with most of the same mods (which
I've done myself), and am very happy with it.
