The article says "Sonos and Slim Devices both use very good
analog-to-digital converters in their products, which means you can
connect their analog outputs to a high-quality self-amplified speaker
system and get great results."
Surely they mean digital-to-analog convertors??

C, the DAC's
signal-to-noise ratio will effectively be lower.
So for volumes between 40 and 100, the analog sound quality will still
decrease slightly(?) as the volume decreases, even though the digital
resolution
The 0 -> 100 volume control corresponds to -50dB -> 0dB attenuation, in
increments of 0.5dB.
So -30dB will be 40/100 on the new volume scale.

Try the new firmware 64 (released yesterday), and set the "disable

I'm using the Mackie HR624s. They're fantastic, but the auto-off doesn't
work if you connect the speakers directly to the SB analog outputs.

little volume control as possible in the digital domain!!

Yep, I think you've got it! (Except you run the SB at full volume to
*maximise* the S/N ratio, not minimise it).

Thanks for the explanation, Sean. That makes it much clearer.
So do I need to go out and buy some attenuators, or is there a teensy
