supplies can make a difference in a good system, but my experience is
that that difference is usually on the margin, improving what was
already good, but not transforming the previously unacceptable.
But what do I know? Before I got my DAC, I enjoyed the analog outs on
the Squeezebo
Audiophile cables are usually marked with arrows to indicate
directionality. According to the laws of physics, this means that all
the electrons are flowing in one direction only. Therefore, sooner or
later, the cables will run out of electrons and you'll need new ones.

which really brought the sound of the SB3 up to the level of a high-end

First of all, I should probably say that, before I got the VDA-2, I
very much enjoyed listening to the SB3 through its analog outputs. It
has a somewhat warm and engaging
ths and am very pleased with the
improvement in sound.
