hi JJZolx, I have seen reports that the SB is very well capable of
playing 96 material. The original files are flac. The SB should be able
to natively do flac.

to the source material is a bit worrying. In fact so
much that I've posted the question to Linn as well. As they both
produced the FLACs and Audiophile SACD players as well as networked
players should allow the to give a good guess.

...on second thought. this could actually dithering with noise shaping
pushing the dither way outside the audible range. which ultimately will
yield an next to analog signal as the analog low pass filtering will
kick this out without a problem.

But I agree that the price gap SB3 -> TP is way to high. I wouldn't
mind to spend twice as much as the SB but not 6 times the price. (CH:
SB=CHF311, TP=CHF1929)

I'd say it depends on the music you are listening to. Eurotrash: no
difference (actually 24kbit sounds the best) Jazz: 192VBR or 320CBR are
not enough. Listen to the decaying cymble with headphone/good speakers.
Choral/orchestral works: only FLAC 24/96 is acceptable.
