Have you tried some inexpensive acoustic treatment of the room and
optimal placement of speakers and listener? That will make more
difference than almost anything else you can do.
And by acoustical treatment, I don't mean mpingo disks...

only practical way to "shield" it is to keep it as far away from the
audio circuits as possible. This is why many resort to putting power
supplies in boxes separate from the audio c
utfit your living room with the stuff you'd end up throwing it all
away in a week. Maybe THAT is the point of the stuff.
It is someone's art project and that's all. Totally impractical for
actual use.

You need to use a box made by hand from exotic woods and finished with
violin lacquer to get the best sound. Aluminum is cheap, that's why it
is used in all the mass market junk.

If you use old slimserver to match old SB firmware you might have
problems with the newer SB3. Why not run the whole set-up on an old
release of SB firmware and old slimserver?

can be done as a batch operation on as many CDs as you care to
rip. Ripping takes the longest and is the biggest PITA because you
have to sit there and change discs every few minutes and correct all
the freedb errors (if you care to). I had two computers with 2 CDROM
drives in each doing

Of course, you may want to edit some of the tags, especially for
classical or multiple artist type discs, but those are a problem with
ANY tagging/storage syst
CDs that actually make use of the full dynamic range the disc is capable
of recording, so there is plenty to "throw away" for replay gain. IIRC,
in my collection, replaygain typically lowers the track gain by 3-5 dB.

I find that doing so causes linux to change the path to the external
HDD with my music library and it stops working. One of these days I'll
go in and fix it so that the OS doesn't change the path like that...

files, you probably don't care enough to hear a difference anyw

those and that is what the whole linear vs. switching power supply
