Reading about this, it seems optimal attenuation values are wholly dependent on both the SPDIF cable used and the given DAC, so it would be hard to prescribe a single attenuation value for every system. Also, from what I can gather, attenuation was helpful for the M2Tech Hiface as its default SPD
