Have a Touch and Beresford Caiman DAC.
Sounds great. Much better than what I heard with Touch and RCA outs.
Many hi-rez files also sound awesme...

I received my Touch yesterday, I am very suprised and also impressed by
how much better this device sounds via Analog out, than the Duet
Receiver.
So at the moment I see no reason to get an external DAC.
Very happy with my setup now. Thank for all your help.

Looking at the Gator board with the bottom edge closest to the front of
the case, it's the first four grey non-polar caps on the left side. I

Interesting approach Mervin!
Can you go into some specifics though please?
Which caps on the Gator, and how did you do it?

Well, that's interesting! My approach was quite in line with Stan's!

hi Mervin,
I forgot to add that I've had that resistor removed and replaced with a
wire link as per Stan B's suggestion.
Curious about the mods you did though to the Gator board?
Could you give some more info about that?
I have a couple of the yellow film caps recommended for the Passive mod

Thanks so much for you thoughts on this matter.
At the moment it seems to me that the Touch and maybe later a DAC is
the best option for me.

I have two Touch(es), both of which feed spdif into dacs. After initial
testing of the first unit's analogue output, I connected a Channel
Islands VDA-1 (highly modded power supplies, swapped opamp, etc).
There's not turning back -- the improvement was significant.
The second Touch was also first

While I agree the Touch is easily the better player, I find I much
prefer the [Duet's] Controller to my Android phone. Perhaps it is just
habit since I had the Controller for a year or two before I tried th
Touch or Touch + external DAC .
Duet is dated technology not recommended, the reciever part is
basically a crippled SB2 and the controller has been bypassed by IOS or
Andriod devices . The Touch is more future proof and handle 24/96 + more
formats for radio streaming (and can use spotify in stand
The Touches Dac is ok...nothing special , you would gain more with a
Duet and an offboard DAC of your choice than a touch and NO dac. Have a
look at Emotiva X-DA1 as well , they make an exceptional dac/pre for
$299-$350 , I have used one with my transporter and it slays the
transporters dac , used

I DO own a Touch, and I've been tickled with it since I got it.
Highly recommended.

I do not own a Touch so I can't compare with that. But one of my
Receivers is hooked up with a Beresford Caiman+ with a Gator board.
Duet Receiver -> Beresford Caiman -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704
My soundstage has never been better
Other things that might have importance:
- Touch can handle high
Well I am in a bit of a moral dilemma.
I own the Duet receiver and am quite happy with the sound - but it
could be better...
Now I have been looking into getting a DAC, the Beresford Caiman /gator
or Atoll Dac 100 are on my list.
Now i have read that the Touch sounds better that the Duet and th
