sounded exactly the same as running the SB3 through the Apogee Big Ben,

That's correct - no TacT is needed if you're only using the Transporter
or SB3 for your music source.
I'm using the TacT as a digital preamp for input selection and volume
control.

You can use a TACT with a transporter in several ways:
1) digital out from TP into TACT, DAC card in TACT to amp
2) digital out from TP into TACT - external DAC to amp
3) TP analogue out into TACT ADC+ DAC card in TACT to amp
4) TP analogue out into TACT ADC - external DAC to amp
To me options 1

There is no difference between the Transporter and SB3 with regards to
room correction. Both have digital outputs and analog

I prefer buying transporter because it's all in one, more practical but
how to add RC to my system?
