Don't do that as it will make the voltage vary with current which is
the antithesis of a good powersupply.

IMO you should just buy the appropriate linear supply. Here's a 5volt
3amp for two dollars.

I too am skeptical of audophile placebo effect, however, I know my amps
and speakers well, and have a lot of different sources I've used with
them, and they are currently lacking magic with the squeezebox. I'm
going to drag up a good DAC and see how that sounds with it.
I don't want to send the S
Without load. Just multimeter into the terminals.

In my mind the supposed benefits of using a linear PSU vs. a switcher
would be by far outweighed by the risks of using too high a voltage.
It's definitely not worth it, especially since there are quite a few
people (myself included) who have not perceived ANY improvement by
switching to a linear

Is that measured with or without load?

It might work fine for a while but longevity will be much reduced. You
may want to experiment with a series resistor to lower the voltage.

Will six volts fry the Squeezebox? That is as low as it goes (measured).
arrr..
As for Jacob's ladder, there's a small tesla coil in my living room :)
Of course, I don't run it in the Living Room -- that's what the kitchen
is for:

Just be sure of the voltage you apply. Do you have a good multimeter you
can check it with?

As long as the voltage doesn't exceed 5 volts you should be fine.
