For future reference it may be wise to list the speakers/amp/sub in
question from the beginning :-)
That sub has balanced inputs, as well as dual RCA inputs. I wo
Yup most of the subs I have been looking at accept High level inputs,
however the new JL Audio F113 is sensational but doesn't have them.
This sub is really something, so much so that I am inclined to buy
despite the lack of connectivity! By the way, Mark you are exactly
right the LFE is not use

Sorry, some (most?) subs accept speaker wire connections as 'high
level' input. RCA signals on the other hand are called low/line level.

If the AV8 is like other pre/pros and receivers, it will have a
subwoofer/LFE out, but this will be inactive when in direct mode
because bass management in these devices is done through the DSP, which
is bypassed in direct mode.
Which leaves us at the multiple-Transporter-output issue.

Sorry Skunk to the best of my knowledge there is no mechanism with the
AV8 to have your DVD playing with Analogue Direct. I am not sure what
you mean by your last comment. The sub I am looking at simply has LFE
inputs. If you could elaborate perhaps my feeble mind could figure it
out ;)
Cheers,
If we could go back to square one for a minute, just noticed you're
using an Arcam AV8 (Pre/Pro). Are you sure there are no line level
outputs on the back that work even in analog direct mode?
Failing that, I'd just use the speaker level signals into the sub.

Yes, it's perfectly reasonable to use both outputs.
I believe you could use a splitter on one set of outputs, but this
would introduce another component in the chain, with its associated
losses.
You might as well use both outputs.

Mark does it make sense that it is acceptible to use both the XLR and
RCA outputs at the same time from the Transporter? This has been
suggested by many it just doesn't seem intuitive to me.
Thanks again.

As I said, it isn't the end of the world (some people actually prefer
it this way).
T
Mark thanks so much. I am understanding this sooo much better now. I
now have to figure out the best way to remove the unwanted low
frequencies from the mains.

Your sub has a built-in crossover, so no worries there.
The problem is that the bass information will not be removed when it's
going to your speakers - that is, unless you pass it through the sub
using the in/out RCAs or pass it through some preamp/processor that has
bass management.
It's not th
Does this solution require an external crossover to strip the low end
for the sub or strip off the low-end for the mains... I now understand
more fully what was being said earlier in this thread and again left
wondering?

bhphotovideo.com they have xlr/rca converters for around 10.00
each.

You can get these at parts express in the US.

Tom,
Thanks for the info. I think... can you put that into laymans terms.
In the meantime I am off to Google to try and figure it out. Ignorance
is bliss...

Yeah sorry I had a solution for the Bryston already (exactly what you
said). However, the new Totem speakers are a few months away and hence
the AV8 must do for now. Is there a way without putting the signal
through the sub?? That must degrade the sound.
Cheers,
Mike.

I max out the transporter and use the AV8 for volume control. In the
