I own a transporter and two touches. The TP is easily my top pick. I
do like the touch a lot though. Having previously owned two

Hi
No experience of the Transporter, but I have had a Duet for some time
and then took a gamble to upgrade to a Touch - the sound is noticeably
better, I control it with the Duets remote so I get the best of both
worlds, the Touchscreen is a waste of a touchscreen IMHO!. If I were

Does it matter? ;)
My experience of high-end seems to be that plenty of money goes on the
looks when I'd rather it went on the function.

I'm based just south of Swindon and have both Touch and TP. If you
fancy coming down for a comparison drop me a PM and I'm sure we can
work something out.

Ah, OK.
Was going to suggest a lend of my Transporter if you were nearer.
If you can afford it, you won't be disappointed with the Transporter, IMHO.

Hi,
Thanks for all the advice and pointers!
The verdict on the Touch seems to be mixed, both as an analogue and
digital source. While it's acknowledged that the Transporter can be
improved, the concensus appears to be positive ... at least enough to
convince me it's worth tracking one down to ha

1200 pounds might be a lot of money, buy on eBay or audiogon (new one)

If you want the best among these products, then yes the Transporter is
a better digital source - although I really think you should consider
using the Transporter analog outputs, as
TP since his sound quality remains above all squeezeboxes
TP since it has all the possible connections
TP since it has an amazing display, you can watch it from meters away
TP since it's the best looking device from all NMP on the market
TP since it remains the best transport I could hear ...so y
Touch. You don't have to use the screen (I don't - you can use a
controller or (better) iPeng). It easily outperforms everything apart
from the (now end-of-life) Transporter. As a digital transport there is
very little between the TP and the Touch. You can add the most esoteric
DAC if you want to.
If sound quality is your primary concern, i would recommend the
Transporter. You will find from a bit of reading through the forum that
opinions vary quite a bit on the topic but I strongly prefer the TP even
as a transport (to the Touch). It's "death" does not concern me too much

I'd recommend you try the Touch by itself. You may well find the analog
output quality of the Touch suits your needs. A DAC can always be added
if you decide it is necessary.
Keep in mind the Touch can be hidden away as easily as the Duet. It
takes just a bit more height than the Duet but you wan
search this forum for "digital quality touch transporter" (not in
quotes) and you'll find lots of discussions. Here's a few to get you
started. Folks have tested the digital and analog outs of the touch and
are quite impressed. Most have agreed that the Touch is much better for
both than duet or

Hi,
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but the game has changed with
the demise of the Transporter ...
I currently have an Arcam FMJ23 CD player as my primary source and it
recently went on the blink. I could and should at least try to have it
repaired, but it got me thinking about switchi
