FWIW, I replaced the .bbdb with my backup copy, and now it works as
before. I think I'll spend a bit of time searching for and deleting
names in BBDB that have "funny" characters. Tips are welcome.

Some time ago, I reported two problems with bbdb

Now I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid and from emacs 22 to emacs 23. At
first, gnus worked fine in emacs 22 and lucid. Then I switched to emacs
