Just a point about kde-3.5.0 included in the latest blfs book,
The package akode has been separated from kdemultimedia and now should be
installed separately, otherwise kde will not be able to play many sound
formats.
Akode can be found on

I choose to install it in /usr because I can't see the point of xorg
having it's own folder. I like to keep it tidy. Some (not many) packages
