Academic Coordinator in the Biophysics Team

   Presentation of the Center

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR --
www.cpr.ku.dk) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of
Copenhagen, performs basic and applied discovery research on human
proteins of biomedical relevance. The newly established Protein
Structure Program Protein Production Platform is established at the
Center, responsible for protein production of recombinant proteins
in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts, generating proteins
samples needed for CPR projects. The Biophysics Team will provide
not quality control of the recombinant proteins using various
biophysical techniques, but also will be involved in collaborations
with research groups to fully understand functional mechanisms.

Academic Coordinator in the Biophysics Team

   Relationships

The Academic Coordinator for the Biophysics Team is responsible to
the Head of the Protein Structure Program and for the members of the
   Biophysics Team.

The strategic direction for the Biophysics Team is set by the Head
of the Program, considering scientific priorities at the Center and
requirements to efficiently carry out collaborations.

The post holder will interact, and is expected to build and maintain
good working relationships with staff at all levels, both internally
and externally including external scientific collaborators.

   Job description

   The Academic Coordinator will:

 *

Work closely with the Project Coordinator in projects related to
biophysical and structural studies of protein-protein and
   protein-DNA interactions.

 *

Have an interest in implementing novel technologies, either
internally or through external collaboration, for analysis of
protein-ligand interactions with particular emphasis on protein-
   protein and protein-DNA interactions

 *

Actively participate in networks and collaborations with the
international research community in general and the local research
community in particular, and demonstrate international reputation
through scientific publications and presentations at international
   symposia.

 *

Lead and provide expertise in the area of protein biophysics. The
successful candidate will implement, use and improve current
   in-house technologies for analyzing protein-protein, protein-DNA and
protein-ligand interactions, and specialize in the operation and
data analysis of Biacore SPR, Isothermal Titration Calorimetry,
   thermophoresis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Analytical
   Ultracentrifugation, Circular Dichroism spectroscopy and
   fluorescence spectroscopy

. Drive the development of innovative protein-protein/protein-ligand/protein-DNA interaction methods, and lead in implementing state of the art instrumentation in the area. Be scientifically responsible for the biophysical characterization of protein samples.

Experience and skills

Expertise in biophysics with an emphasis on all of the following methods: thermophoresis, Analytical Ultracentrifugation, Isothermal Titration Calorimetry, Thermophoresis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Biacore SPR, Circular Dichroism spectroscopy, Analytical Size Exclusion Chromatography (Analytical SEC), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and fluorescence spectroscopy with a PhD degree in the relevant area.

Experience with specialized software such as SEDFIT/SEDPHAT, Origin, SigmaPlot Experience with quantitative protein-protein interaction analysis.
Expertise in the use of fluorescent-based biophysics methods.
Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.

Integrity, enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility, confidence and outstanding collaboration skills.

Employment Conditions

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), and the employment will be permanent as Chief Consultant (37 hours per week).
