I never considered gluing blocks with 5200. I always used epoxy to glue them in place and then encapsulate to protect from water. I also thought 5200 was the goto for all through fittings below the waterline, no? Josh Muckley S/V Sea Hawk 1989 C&C 37+ Solomons, MD On Wed, Oct 21, 2020, 19:57 De

As others have said, 3M 5200 is an adhesive, not a sealant. Virtually the ONLY place I use 3M 5200 is to PERMANENTLY GLUE teak blocks to the inside of the hull or a bulkhead so that I can screw a fastener into it. Refer to this chart for suggested sealant usages. https://drive.google.com/file/d/

5200 is more of a permanent fix better for deck seals. On Wed, Oct 21, 2020, 7:06 PM Peter McMinn wrote: > I have 3m 5200 but don’t think that’s the stuff. Or is it? > > On Wed, Oct 21, 2020 at 3:57 PM Andrew Burton > wrote: > >> I would never use actual silicone sealant. Once you do, nothi

No, that’s adhesive, not sealant. I think heating it and re-clamping would probably seal it, if it is the hose. If you can shut off the thru hull, and it sounds like you can, you can remove the hose, and then remove the barbed adapter and see what is wrong. Either re-seat it, or get a new one.

Peter, No it’s not. I wouldn’t use 5200 for any reason. It’s pretty much permanent. You are better to fix it right than bandaid it anyway. Carefully find out what is actually leaking and you will have the solution. If it’s the barb fitting or hose just replace one or both and double ss clamp it.

Ha! Yes, I'm talking about the intake for the head (toilet). Great suggestions here. In the interest of not turning a tiny leak into a gushing one (or an inoperative toilet), I think I'll try the least disruptive first: 1. rescue tape 2. removing/trimming the hose and applying silicone & replacing

Shut the seacock off and replace the nipple or it could let all the way loose, which would be bad. You can take a pine plug and plug the intake from under the boat too if you have any doubts about the seacock. (if you don’t have a set of plugs, this should be #1 on your shopping list) Joe Dell
