I'm worried a bit because I don't own a keyboard with a Super key. And
I'm not going to throw it away; it's an IBM Model M, I had to kill
people for it. ;)
I do agree that it makes sense to have coherent key binding throughout
the whole desktop, but for me it would be a regression. Would it be

The big picture here is that GTK+ changed the way it does certain
things, intentionally and as an improvement. What should happen then is
that every piece of software that relies on GTK+ would be updated to
cope with/take advantage of the new stuff. And so
"The reason upgrading ia32-libs exposed the problem is because the it
contains the newer GTK+."
That means GTK+ is the problem (or flash interaction with GTK+).

So the problem does or does not reside in ia32-libs? Is it a problem with
GTK+ or ia32-libs?

The gconf default for the metacity key is correct, but as demonstrated
on IRC, compiz sets the key for the user during login with that wrong
key combination.
I don't quite understand how compiz' key bindings work in that regard.
For now I'll just revert the metacity change to avoid this problem.

I can confirm this behaviour in a fully updated stock-standard Lucid

case of compiz reading the metacity keybindings and doing something
strange with them.
