KDE4 Window Decorator Crashes with Co
After reinstalling most of the system, I tried logging in in GNOME safe
mode, and metacity was running correctly. Big clue that it was
something to do with the GNOME session, and I remembered I'd stored

I got this too. Strangely in Firefox, Thunderbird and Filezilla the
cursor theme is right but in all native Gnome apps this bug is present.

After a restart from a partial upgrade from Karmic to Lucid, neither
compiz nor metacity are started on login - so no decorations or window
manager.
metacity --replace would work, but can't always get focus into gnome-
Terminal, so easiest thing is to go to Appearance > visual effects and

But fade plugin has very useful feature - decreasing brightness/saturation of
window if its unresponsible;

I've got the same problem but in my case it was permanent.
The fixed I used was too launch windows manager from startup
Fully up to date patched Ubuntu 10.4 latest kernel installed.
Dell laptop 1545 specs as follows
Intel® Pentium® Dual Core™ T4400 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache)
Genuine Windows®
I've tried Rich Adams fix and it works. Still not as good as disabling
Compiz (Cursorchange is still not overtaken immediately, you have to
move the cursor out of the Window), but much better than before.

I agree with the earlier post that this is an accessibility issue. As
person with limited vision, I have a very hard time finding the small
mouse pointer on my desktop. It looks like the fix is relatively easy,
although a bit beyond what I'm comfortable with as a user.

Hi, I've just created an account to say this bug affects me too. Under the same
conditions kde4 window decorator crashes and window borders disappear.
Plastik trick doesn't seem to solve for me.
When can we expect a bugfix release?

I can confirm what Mirco mentions , turning off the Fading Windows
plugin , fixes the issue.
Does it fix the issue for others as well?
