That sounds like a different bug. The issue as described in the
description at the top is fixed (for me anyway). My comment stands, if
there are still issues then submit a new bug.

This was fixed ages ago, assuming you are using compiz from the ubuntu
repository. On 13.10 32 bit this is 0.9.10+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1, I
guess 64 bit will be similar. If you still see a problem report a new
bug.

ctrl and Dmitriy: the bug described here has been fixed. The issue you
are describing seems to be a different problem so there is no point
mentioning it here. If you cannot find a bug that matches your symptom

It happened to me when I plugged the external monitor into my (intel
graphics) laptop, or it might have been when I removed it, not entirely
certain. I unplugged the external monitor and plugged it back in a
couple of times (waiting for it to settle each time) and it recovered.

I am afraid this is still not fixed for me, .xsession errors attached.
It appears to be recognising that it needs to use s/w rendering but is

Should there be a warning in the installer saying that it would really
be better to install 12.04 for the moment? Also a note on the download

This needs to be re-opened on gnome-desktop3 as on Quantal the error
message shown is no longer appropriate as unity-2d is not available.
As well as changing the error message is it not the case that on Quantal
the underlying problem can be solved by the use of llvmpipe? I keep

In my naivity I had assumed that this bug would be sorted by the use of
llvmpipe in the same way that it is to be solved for hardware that does
not support 3d in the first place. Is that not the case?

Also for me using 2d with 12.04 this was fixed some time ago, so not
sure why it is marked as won't fix. There is the worse issue on 2d that
the windows are not even moved to the front (bug #889044) but I see that
is marked as critical so hopefully it will be fixed.

@gerboland: I am definitely running unity-2d and see metacity running and not
compiz.
I am not aware of having mapped any keys and Super 1, 2 etc and s, t work as
expected.
xev for Super D shows:
KeyPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x4e1,
root 0xac, subw 0x0, time 15932376
I can confirm I still see this in Unity-2D on two machines. Holding down Super
and hitting D does nothing. Ctrl-Alt-D does show the desktop.
If it helps to analyze, if I have nautilus in focus then when I do Super D the
highlight moves to the first item starting with D. If I do Super S it brin

@Martin, sorry I think your comment is ambigous. Do you mean Lyle was correct
in thinking that he should see the fix in 0.9.6, or that he is correct in his
response to my comment that it will not be till 0.9.7.
In other words which version is the fix in please?
Thanks.

@Lyle: Perhaps "This bug was fixed in the package compiz -
1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu5" means that the version it is fixed in
0.9.6+ so that it will not appear in the repos till 0.9.7 is released.
