Bug#1108061: mc: ten-second freeze at start, pause after running command option ignored

tags 1108061 + fixed-upstream
thanks

Hi,

the equivalent patch (plus a new comment) got merged upstream.

I would really like this in trixie; if it’d help, I’d do it as
NMU and ask for approval. Please indicate if that’s okay or not.

Thanks,

Bug#1108061: mc: ten-second freeze at start, pause after running command option ignored

2025-06-19 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: mc
Version: 3:4.8.33-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc: [email protected]

As I’ve mentioned upstream, these issues (which are heavily felt in
daily use as I start and exit mc tons of times) are caused by the
subshell communication code sometimes using a too-high file descriptor
number and then the shell runs “pwd >&10”, which is not supported in
POSIX shells (including mksh/lksh).

I’ve just submitted a corresponding change upstream, but this needs
to be fixed in trixie, too. Please find attached a debdiff for this
(except debian/changelog), apply and get a freeze exception.

(mc will need to be rebuilt for trixie already *anyway* due to
#1108010 once e2fsprogs is fixed, so this’ll save a binNMU)
