massive memory and cpu utilization to no effect.
This is probably amd64-specific, though java itself is working fine.

apparently the segfault only shows up in the debugging session. Please
recheck with the current audacity in unstable, and provide a complet
stack trace. I doubt that the problem is in libgcc1.
