It appears the package contains two files of about 18M each with filenames that look suspiciously like they don't belong in the package. The filesnames are: -rw-r--r-- root/root 18311262 2004-05-27 14:38:26 ./usr/include/c++/3.4/arm-linux/bits/stdc++.h.gch/O0g -rw-r--r-- root/root 18361940 2004-05-27 14:38:30 ./usr/include/c++/3.4/arm-linux/bits/stdc++.h.gch/O2g Perhaps leaving those out would shrink the package by about 90% down to the level of the 3.3.4 package. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: arm (armv5l) Kernel: Linux 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-armcore-len Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages libstdc++6 depends on: ii gcc-3.4-base 3.4.0-2 The GNU Compiler Collection (base ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.0-2 GCC support library -- no debconf information --------------------------------------- Received: (at 253870-done) by bugs.debian.org; 13 Jun 2004 10:29:00 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jun 13 03:29:00 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from mail.cs.tu-berlin.de [130.149.17.13] (root) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BZSEW-0004wC-00; Sun, 13 Jun 2004 03:29:00 -0700 Received: from bolero.cs.tu-berlin.de ([EMAIL PROTECTED] [130.149.19.1]) by mail.cs.tu-berlin.de (8.9.3p2/8.9.3) with ESMTP id MAA23345; Sun, 13 Jun 2004 12:28:56 +0200 (MEST) Received: (from [EMAIL PROTECTED]) by bolero.cs.tu-berlin.de (8.12.10+Sun/8.12.8/Submit) id i5DASuRm027497; Sun, 13 Jun 2004 12:28:56 +0200 (MEST) From: Matthias Klose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sun, 13 Jun 2004 12:28:56 +0200 To: Len Sorensen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#253870: Huge files in -dev package on arm appear like potential unneeded garbage. No, these are precompiled header files. See #251707 if these are useful at all. Matthias
