I've had two reports from users of my e-smith-cups contrib about authorization problems when printing to samba shares. One user was trying to print from a Windows 2000 host, the other from a Windows XP host. My own limited testing from a Windows 98 host had not shown any such problems. The samba log that Chaloner Hale sent along with his bug report showed that samba was somehow unable to pass authentication info to cupsd. This implies that the problem must have been introduced with the previous e-smith-cups update, which changed the cupsd configuration to requiring a password for all ipp requests. As a workaround for this problem I changed the cupsd configuration again. The daemon now only listens on 127.0.0.1:631 and $LocalIP:631 and allows requests from localhost or from valid users with a valid password. You can find an updated e-smith-cups rpm that contains this config change at http://www.contribs.org/contribs/rvandenaker/incoming/. Remember to run "/sbin/e-smith/signal-event cups-upgrade" after the package upgrade. Feedback on this issue is very much appreciated. I will move the rpm up to beta once I've received enough useful feedback.
