As the author and copyright holder of the how-tos, it is up to Darrell to
determine if they can be published. However, copyright protects only the
specific expression of "something", not the idea or concept of the
"something" itself. In other words, there is nothing to prevent anyone from
writing
I've tried to stay out of this thread, but I have to make a couple of
observations.
First, the public announcement of the condition of the relationship between
e-smith and Darrell was NOT made by e-smith. Darrell could have elected to
continue his participation in the forums, to continue providin
But, don't assume all systems will fail. I used a couple of E60s for
installation and development for over 9 months and never once had the
problem Steve did.
I found the E60 to be extremely reliable and a good performer.

You could modify the /etc/fetchmail template to check the return code of the
fetchmail program, then pass/suppress the output accordingly. Something like

I may be misunderstanding you, but I believe part of what you are looking
for is in the web manager in the Workgroup configuration. This lets you
change the workgroup name and the server name -- this is Samba (ie, Windows
Networking) and not tcp/ip.

True enough, but then how much larger do we really expect an appliance-style
server such as e-smith to get? Maybe if the good people at e-smith lose
their marbles
The only time I've seen this is when I'm manually (or via some means other
than e-smith's cron task) launching either /etc/startmail or /etc/fetchmail.
If I've done this and the cron task happens to fire off before the manual

Didn't see this until now (been away and very busy.) I've seen a number of
not only switches but also hubs that will "lock up" if other parts of the
network lose power. Or sometimes even if not! You'll see a link light and
all, but no activity or only TX activity.
