Designers of all varieties use sketches to refine their work, and to communicate with clients and users when words alone are not enough. Interaction designers need to sketch not only the appearance of the artefacts being designed, but also their behaviour--how they will be experienced in use. This talk will look at various techniques for exploring design requirements and reflect on how the activity of sketching can be stretched beyond pencil and paper. A BIT ON STEPHEN: Stephen Viller is a lecturer in Interaction Design in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland, where he is the director of the Masters in Interaction Design. His research focuses on the design of technologies to support social and physical interaction, and on the role that social and physical interaction plays in the design process. His publications span various interdisciplinary journals and conferences in the fields of Computer Supported Cooperative Work, Interaction Design, and Human-Computer Interaction.
