I have noticed that this issue is yet to be fixed, a recent update to
nm-applet.desktop still has this issue. Please fix. You can see in my
above post that the problem can be solved by using dbus-launch.

I've found that this bug has regressed and returned on the production
version of Trusty Tahr. All three of my rigs (two upgraded and one fresh
install) are affected.
The bug affects nm-applet and nautilus-dropbox for me.
For nm-applet, the fix involves editing /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-

Unfortunately, the problem has returned.

Matthew, sorry about the incomplete information. I forgot to mention
that I'm using gnome-panel and a gnome-flashback(ish) session (xmonad +
gnome). It's in that context that I'm using indicator-applet-complete.
It worked fine with saucy. Now, I had to add the notification-area
applet to gnome-pane
Here's how the panel looks. See those icons that are really close
together? That's because they're being shown in the notification area.
The other icons (starting at indicator-keyboard) are being shown by
indicator-applet-complete.

David, what do you mean by "enable the notification area"? You have
tagged this bug as "trusty", but as far as I know, there is no way to do
that in Trusty. indicator-applet is also not shipped in Trusty.
