Esteemed listers,

I had a score setup using Unity DS-1 software sampler for playback of 32
channels. This is an orchestration for a client who likes to hear the
project as it progresses, so I focus more than usual on playback. I use
expressions with patch changes for things like pizz., trem., solo, 1st desk,
sord., etc., always keeping the same MIDI channel. So, if in the instrument
list the violin 1 staff is assigned to channel 24, then I have an expression
pizz.<vn1> that is also assigned to 24, and the following arco<vn1> is on 24
too.

I got a new E-mu Virtuoso 2000 module, and used this score to try it out.
For whatever reason, I assigned the 32 input channels of the V2000 to 33-64
in Finale, and rebuilt my Instrument List and expression patch assignments.

Here is what happens. When I edit an expression (say, pizz<vn1>), and pull
down the channel assignment menu, Virtuoso 2000 B, channel 3 is checked,
which is channel 51 in Finale (V2000 B is set to 49-64). If I change it to
channel 8 (56) and click okay, and click edit again, the channel has
returned to 51. This continues to happen with other expressions. Are they
really not staying assigned after I leave the edit box? Am I missing
something here? Can anyone replicated the problem?

MacFin 2002b, MOTU micro express interface, FreeMIDI (has patch lists for
V2000).
