I just noticed that over the weekend. I don't remember it happening
before...

Hi DJ,
I understand it's supposed to be common.
Notice the difference between the filenames "preference" and
"settings" ;-)
Kind regards,
Bert Timmerman.

The ~/.pcb/settings is not in a hid; it's common to everything. It's
supposed to work for scripting, too, for example.

Because the layout is different for the two GUIs. One follows the Gtk
layout rules, the other follows (or is supposed to follow) the Motif
layout rules.

Hi DJ,
With the gtk-hid-gui there is a ~/.pcb/preferences file.
Appending "Media = A4" gives no result for the ps-hid (it remains on the
"Letter" format).
Reading back the ~/.pcb/preferences gives that the appended ("media =
A4") line is removed.
Kind regards,
Bert Timmerman.

Please include "lock text" and "text only" in the settings menu of GTK-
HID. Currently, it is possible to lock the text with the lesstif-HID
only. If the layout is opened with GTK-HID there is no way to unlock the
text. I provided a (rather trivial) patch in a bug report some months ago.

Hi,
It's probably gtk-hid-gui related.
The gtk-hid-gui only mentions "Tab Switch view to other side" in
Window/Key Reference.
With the gtk-hid-gui
pcb --action-string 'DumpKeys()' | grep -i tab
on the CLI gives:
Looking for default_font in .
Can't open ./default_font for reading

Rubber band mode is (still) much too sloppy about the decision which
segment endpoints to move.
Imagine a short segment between longer ones like I constantly get because
of the metric/imperial nuisance. Thes almost never rubber move in a
decent way. Suppose a track looks like this:

I noticed, that last years versions of pcb won't load layouts produced
with the current snapshot. There is no save-as-old-version. So this is a
one-way road. Please add a big, fat warning about this incompatibility
issue in README and INSTALL. Maybe a dialog on first start-up would be a

Which list? It shows up in lesstif's:
pcb --action-string 'DumpKeys()' | grep -i tab
Tab SwapSides(V)
Shift-Tab SwapSides(H)
Ctrl-Tab SwapSides(R)
Ctrl-Shift-Tab SwapSides()

The tab key is missing in the list of key bindings. (Is this list
generated dynamically and thus guarantied to reflect the actual key
bindings? BTW, I like this list. I use it as a cheat sheet to compensate
for the inability to recall that-really-slick-shortcut :-)

If I move line segments to other layers pcb tries to keep it connected
and automagically places vias. Unfortunately it is a bit too diligent
and places vias even when moving lines between silk and a layer that is a
member of the component layer group. However, there are no superfluous
vias if I

After I loaded the layout data of some additional footprints produced by

I like to draw the outline of the board to lineout layer as recommended
by the wiki.
* My fab accepts the resulting gerber layer $NAME.group3.gbr which
contains the lineout layer. Still, it would be even better to have a self
explanatory layer name and get rid of the holes and vias in this

Sometimes preference dialog fails to close. If it does and I hit the ok-

Most of the times the preference dialog closes just fine.

This is the first in a series of issues I stumbled upon with pcb snapshot
20070912. Most of them have been present before, some may be new.
I like to create my footprints with pcb. Consequently, I'd like to access
each and every feature through the GUI. There are some more complex
details that

Ok. This was of course one of my complaints. Sudden warping sometimes
made an edit of the flipped board a real pain. I'll apply your patches

Two weeks ago I installed the latest CVS snapshot of pcb (20070912). I
was pleased to see quite a few issues closed -- Some of them had been
bugging me for long. This includes:
* broken regexp in select by name dialog.
* polygon creation sometimes not working.
Thank you for fixing!

None :-)
pcb calls these holes "unplated" and produces a separate gerber file for
them.
