I have a similar but different question :)
How can I *disable* the boot logo but still maintain framebuffer startup?
I have a problem at the moment (actually not right at this point as the machine is in
bits, but prior to yesterday I had it), whereby:
A) framebuffer would start, in 16bit depth,

Hi all :)
I'm stuck with a bit of a problem, I'm using a kernel built with gentoo-sources
2.4.20r6, with matroxfb, videomode selection support, and G400 support compiled in. I
need to be able to specify the following upon boot (its for an arcade monitor):
mode "384x288-51"

Hmm. I took a guess at the CPU from the temp2, as you might have been overclocking a
P4 and overvolting it to 1.85. 69 degrees is a bit hot for an XP

The fan headers you don't have anything connected to, so don't worry about them. The
VCore 2 I assume your machine does not use (do you have a P4 by any chance?). The -12v
and -5v lines being way off probably means your PSU isn't supplying them, or is doing
an extremely bad job of it. There is v
Just checked, and I'm not, so that must be it! I'll try that tonight. I suspect it's
my lack of experience with usermod ;)

I can use su. Once KDM is running I cannot su, even from a telnet session. Since I
can't su from a telnet session I can't kill KDM to try and locate the problem!
Any ideas?

Try adding -gpm to your uses flags. I had to do this today to install Midnight
Commander without emerging gpm first.

Ok, I finally got firewire working on my Gentoo install :) My Deltron Speedzter
external fw&usb2 cases both work perfectly, hotplug automatically runs
rescan-scsi-bus.sh every time a device gets added or removed, I'll be looking to
script the mounting sometime... But for now I have to get my iPo
What version of Glibc are you running? I ask because between (a) installing a Stage1
1.4 with P4 optimizations and (b) doing an emerge sync and having portage tell me
everything is broken because glibc prior to r3 produced bad SSE2 code, I was forced to
reinstall completely as I couldn't for the
