So I've finished compiling gnome, and it tells me I have an error. Type
emerge --verbose for details.
That produces an error message, because it's lacking a command to be
verbose about. "emerge --verbose gnome" doesn't tell me of any errors.

recently I get these messages every time I'm using emerge.
After any operation e.g. merging a new package I get this complaining
about package kbd:

-u and it ended with:
g++ -c -pipe -w -O2 -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -DSIP_MAKE_MODULE_DLL
-DQEXTSCINTILLA_DLL -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT
-I/usr/qt/3/mkspecs/linux-g++ -I. -I. -I/usr/include/python2.2
