My experiences are different: the fact that i can compile the gentoo to match the actual processor makes gentoo go faster than a redhat distro. yes i loose some efficiency by running vmware underneath but i think the special compile makes up for that...

scratch, it ran (windowed, running X etc) at a similar speed to any of the off
