Hi all,
I'm hoping to get some input from anyone who has a Revco UxF Series -80
freezer. My lab bought the 28.8 cu.ft. version (model #UXF60086A60) about a
year ago and have had nothing but trouble since.
It ran beautifully for a few months then suddenly failed and we almost lost
all of our tissu
Anyone know the name of the New England Olympus microscope Rep?

Getting into this thread a little late...but I like the ideas so far and agree
that error rates such as mislabels are a good variable to monitor ( blocks,
slides etc). Other quality issues too such as rework due to poor embedding,
improper orientation, tissue "floaters", sectioning repeats as r
Hi Allyse,
TEM is a whole new ball of wax so to speak. It depends on what you are fixing,
and how you plan to fix it. Typically you would start with Paraformaldehyde
and a Glutaraldehyde mix such as Karnovsky's. The after water washes do a
secondary fix in Osmium Tetroxide followed by water w

First of all, before you start wondering, ask your pathologists what they want
to know. It is not enough for them to ask for indicators "like other areas in
the lab" because the histology lab is an "unique area of the medical
laboratory".
If they do not know what they want, then you can pr

Can you please give me your routine for processing breast cases over the

maximum, call someone in over the weekend, or just indicate on the
patient report that the fixation extended beyond the 48 hours limit for

I really do not understand your question because you are referring to TEM and
on the one hand you use an H&E staining and light microscopy and on the other
you talk about specimens being embedded in 7100 plastic resin.
First of all it seems that what you are doing is "resin embedding" so you can
Fawn,
We are doing TAT on breast biopsies (not mastectomies), from time of receipt of

How about mislabeled specimens (blocks or slides), number of repeated stains
(specials or ihc), floaters, TAT, or correlations? Just look at the CAP
checklist for ideas, you will be surprised at how many ideas you can get from
that!

Hi everyone,
My new manager would like me to come up with a list of process/performance
improvements in the pathology department that can be measured on a
monthly/quarterly basis, such as they do for other departments in the hospital,
i.e. the ER measures the number of patient falls with <5 p
Hi all,
I have a question about transmission electron microscopy. Currently, at the
lab that I work in, we use a basic H&E stain and image with a light
microscope. However, it was brought to my attention today that there has
been talk of sending some specimens out for TEM imaging. I currently embe
Thanks for the information, Angela. I'm sure we will be having a similar
